The cavern walls shrieked. The psychic feedback was immense. The very rock seemed to groan under the strain of having its own malevolent energy focused and fired back at it. A network of hairline cracks appeared in the smooth stone around her, and a fine dust rained down from the ceiling.

For the first time since she’d arrived, the whispers stopped. She had done more than block them. She had hurt them. She had hurt the cavern itself.

She stood up, her legs shaky but firm. She was still alone, still a prisoner. But she was no longer a victim. She was a Guardian. And the fight was not over.
